Two women were killed when their vehicle was swept into surging flood waters in Plainfield, New Jersey, during Monday night’s severe storms, city officials said. Their vehicle became submerged around 8 p.m. and was pulled into Cedar Brook in the area of Stelle Avenue, a city spokeswoman said.
The tragedy unfolded just 11 days after three people were killed by falling trees as violent storms ripped through central New Jersey on July 3. Two of those, ages 25 and 79, were from Plainfield, while the third was from neighboring North Plainfield.
