An Air India passenger plane carrying more than 200 people crashed after taking off from an airport in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday.

On June 12, the London-bound aircraft crashed into the nearby campus of a medical college in Meghani Nagar area and burst into flames, moments after it took off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

An Air India plane with more than 200 people on board crashed near the airport in India's city of Ahmedabad, the airline and police officials said.

Air India has confirmed that one passenger survived Thursday's airplane crash, which had 242 passengers and crew members on board.

At the hospital in Ahmedabad, family members were giving DNA samples, waiting for official confirmation of their loss in the Air India disaster, and remembering their loved ones.
